Position Summary:

 

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Advocacy Education Manager will manage and serve as the primary trainer for Georgia Women’s Policy Institute (GWPI), Georgia Women’s Policy Institute at Spelman College; co-chair the Conversations planning committee with the Public Policy and Partnerships Manager; develop and conduct YWCA USA advocacy and education campaigns, including Get Out The Vote and Until Justice Just Is; collaborate with the leadership team and advocacy staff to develop and implement strategic advocacy initiatives and the YWCA Greater Atlanta’s Policy Agenda; and work with the Public Policy and Outreach Manager to prepare advocacy and educational content for YWCA Greater Atlanta’s social media platforms.

 

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000

 

Essential Functions:

 

Program Management and Training

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will manage, coordinate, and facilitate both the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute (GWPI) and Georgia Women’s Policy Institute at Spelman College, to include recruitment, acceptance, and onboarding of new Fellows, planning and facilitating effective, interactive training sessions; managing the logistics of booking training sites, guest speakers, and catering; updating and presenting GWPI curriculum and training materials; and providing oversight and mentorship to fellows regarding their policy projects.

 

GWPI at Spelman College is a program in partnership with the Social Justice Program at Spelman College. The Advocacy Education Manager will work in partnership with the Social Justice Program Director to manage, coordinate, and facilitate GWPI at Spelman College, to include recruitment, acceptance, and onboarding of new Fellows, planning and facilitating effective, interactive training sessions; managing the logistics of booking training sites, guest speakers, and catering; updating and presenting GWPI curriculum and training materials; and providing oversight and mentorship to fellows regarding their policy projects.

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will also evaluate GWPI’s efficacy and effectiveness through participant surveys and interviews. The Advocacy Education Manager will be responsible for program continuity and improvement. With oversight from the COO and Accounting Manager, and in coordination with the Public Policy and Partnerships Manager, the Advocacy Education Manager will be responsible for managing the GWPI budget.

 

Advocacy Campaigns

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will strategically develop advocacy education campaigns for YWCA Greater Atlanta’s base in alignment with the association’s mission to Eliminate Racism and Empower Women, to include issue areas related to voting rights and voter education, racial justice, reproductive justice, and the economic empowerment and health and safety of Georgian women and their families. The Advocacy Education Manager will also collaborate with YWCA Greater Atlanta’s Leadership Team on YWCA USA campaigns, including Until Justice Just Is Racial Justice Challenge and Voter Engagement Get Out the Vote campaigns. The Advocacy Education Manager, in collaboration with the Public Policy and Partnerships Manager, will also be responsible for maintaining YWCA Greater Atlanta’s advocacy brand continuity.

 

Policy Agenda and Legislative Advocacy

 

The Advocacy Education Manager, in collaboration with the Public Policy and Partnerships Manager will analyze the policy environment, prepare and propose a proactive annual Policy Agenda, based upon GWPI policy projects, the mission and vision of YWCA Greater Atlanta and ongoing information from YWCA USA. The Advocacy Education Manager, in collaboration with the Marketing team, will draft and disseminate weekly legislative newsletters to educate and inform YWCA Greater Atlanta’s advocacy base and media outlets during legislative sessions.

 

Public Advocacy and Education

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will contribute to Conversations, YWCA of Greater Atlanta’s annual forum on race and gender, by working with the event Chairs, co-chairing the planning committee and providing relevant policy and advocacy resources. The Advocacy Education Manager will recruit and train Conversations Table Facilitators and develop event and post-event advocacy education materials.

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will maintain communication with marketing and communications team to provide content for event and educational posts.

 

Alumni Engagement

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will engage GWPI alumni to re-develop a YWCA Greater Atlanta advocacy committee consisting of GWPI alumni and YWCA Greater Atlanta board members. This committee will meet at least quarterly and provide input on and participate in the development of YWCA Greater Atlanta’s Policy Agenda, participate in advocacy events and campaigns, support GWPI through mentorship and fellow recruitment, and provide personally meaningful financial support of YWCA Greater Atlanta’s programs.

 

Grant and Budget Management

 

The Advocacy Education Manager, with oversight of the COO, and bookkeeper, will co-manage the Advocacy Program’s budget. The Advocacy Education Manager will also collaborate with the Public Policy and Partnerships Manager, and YWCA Greater Atlanta’s Chief Development Officer to seek out further grant funding and prepare applications and reports.

 

Other Duties

 

The Advocacy Education Manager will be required to facilitate training outside of regular business hours on occasional nights and weekends and work irregular hours during the legislative session. Travel to meetings throughout the metro Atlanta area is required. This position is a hybrid position, allowing the Advocacy Education Manager to work on location with partners/various stakeholders, at the YWCA Greater Atlanta office, or from home.
