POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Senior Center Manager, performs a variety of support services, including, but not limited to, the kitchen area. Assist the Center Manager with required programming for the Center. In the absence of the Center Manager, oversee the Senior Center. There are two positions, one at a center in Roswell, GA and one at a center in Atlanta, GA. Work is each day, Monday – Friday, from approximately 8am – 1pm. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Assist the Center Manager with programming, which may include creating program, recruiting speakers, reminder calls for presenters, etc. 2. Greet participants and answer phones. 3. Assist with field trips. 4. Prepare pack-out of home delivered meals and communicate as needed with the home delivered meals coordinator. 5. Perform all duties related to serving congregate meals, which includes taking/recording meal temp, heating and serve meals and assist with kitchen clean-up. 6. A general understanding and ability to communicate the services offered, and the guidelines to attend one of Senior Services’ senior centers. 7. Fill-in on Meals on Wheels route. 8. Complete weekly and/or monthly reporting. 9. Other duties related to the daily operation of the Senior Center, as directed by the Senior Center Manager. 10. Be familiar with the goals and policies of Senior Services North Fulton, Inc. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS • Previous work experience with diverse groups of people, including older adults • Previous experience in a multi-task work environment • Previous experience with, or the ability to learn, data entry, e-mail, Microsoft Office • Previous experience with, or the ability to learn and implement food safety procedures Physical Demands • Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions of the Senior Center Assistant’s job. • While performing the responsibilities of the Senior Center Assistant’s job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel, pick up and carry items. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Work Environment • While performing the responsibilities of this job, business office and public meeting space environment characteristics are representative of the environment the Senior Center Assistant will encounter. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. QUALIFICATIONS • Good interpersonal and computer skills • Ability to face challenges and be flexible • An understanding of senior issues; ability to competently meet their needs • Good physical condition: able to lift up to 15 pounds • Must be a team player.
