Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, a division of Goshen Valley Foundation, is looking for a Home Life Assistant to work at our 160-acre campus located in the northern part of Cherokee County which is home to about 40 young men in foster care.

The Home Life Assistant plays a vital supporting role in the daily operation of the home for youth in foster care. In this position, you will offer afternoon/evening support when the homes are busiest. This role is ideal for someone who feels called to serve both houseparents and youth in foster care, recognizing that supporting the day-to-day activities is an essential part of building a healthy, healing home environment.

Furthermore the Home Life Assistant will:

  • Assist with teaching life skills curriculum in the homes for the boys (ages 12-18).
  • Provide direct, day-to-day support to house parents in the overall functioning of the home.
  • Transport youth to on-campus appointments, recreational events, or off-campus activities as scheduled.
  • Supervise and engage with youth during on-campus recreational activities, outings, and transitions.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and organized home environment.
  • Help supervise youth study or homework time, offering encouragement and academic support as needed.
  • Provide one-on-one or direct supervision for youth requiring additional support.
  • Assist house parents with organizing home spaces (i.e. common areas, food pantry, kitchen, storage areas).
  • Offer administrative help to house parents with basic paperwork and documentation required for the operation of the home.
  • Model respectful, compassionate behavior and always uphold the home’s expectations and values.
  • Communicate effectively with house parents and staff to ensure consistent care and support for youth.
  • Other duties may include: assisting with chores, study time help, dinner prep, recreation, filling in as needed with overnight supervision and/or date nights for Houseparents, and transportation to and from activities or appointments.

Job Type:  This is a part-time position.  A typical schedule is roughly 4 pm - 9 pm; about 20-25 hours per week. Benefits include 401k eligibility. Salary range is $15-$17/hour depending upon experience.

Home Life Assistant:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be of good character and supportive of the programs, policies, and ideals of GVF.
  • Must be able to pass a drug and background check, possess a valid driver’s license, and be insurable by GVF insurance carrier.
