Part-Time College Level Math, English, and History Tutor Summary Leap Year (www.theleapyear.org) is a nonprofit organization that recruits first generation high school graduates (who we call Fellows) to serve as reading coaches during their first year of college at Georgia State University through our community service and college readiness gap year program. Leap Year is recruiting for a math, English composition, and history tutor to provide our Fellows with the academic support they need to be successful in their first college courses. Key Responsibilities · Tutor, guide, and support Fellows during their credit-bearing Georgia State University courses: English Composition 1101, Survey of US History 2110, Math 1001, Math 1111, English Composition 1102, and 0999 support classes. · Work to ensure that all Fellows succeed in their first college classes, providing editing, feedback, and advice help support Fellows with class assignments; provide personalized lessons and tutoring sessions for each student; support students both in 1v1, small group, and whole group settings. · Teach/review college freshman level academic knowledge such as writing essays, grammatical rules, citation, freshman level academic math concepts, as well as academic strategies including making study guides, advice on how to effectively study for exams, time management and organizational skills, etc.; provide guidance, accountability, encouragement, and mentorship to Fellows in their college classes. · Assist in implementation of our college and career readiness curriculum by leading whole class presentations; developing and leading educational workshops to supplement our curriculum to help Fellows prepare for transition to college; train and oversee Fellows on professionalism; serve as a role model and social emotional resource to Fellows. · Provide administrative and project management support to the Leap Year team as needed; support the Leap Year team’s efforts for program growth, visibility, and fundraising; support and fill-in for colleagues when needed. Position Details Start Date: September 5th, 2025 End Date: May 15th, 2026 Schedule: Fridays 12:00pm–5:00pm plus two hours per week of availability for virtual office hours between 5-7pm for total of 7 hours per week (occasional work required outside hours required for prep time, team meetings and events). Eligible for two paid PTO days per semester plus program/holiday breaks. Salary: Total compensation is a prorated rate of $950 per month (before taxes) for the length of the contract, paid on the 15th and 30th of the month plus eligible for a $500 completion bonus based on attendance and successful completion of the contract.
