Job Description

Position Summary:

The Advocacy Coordinator will assign, manage, and supervise a team of Atlanta CASA volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care. This role involves empowering up to 35 CASA volunteers to build meaningful connections with children, identify their needs, ensure their well-being, and support their academic and personal growth. The Advocacy Coordinator plays a critical role in facilitating communication among professionals, preparing court reports to guide judicial decisions, and providing ongoing support to volunteers. This position will also contribute to volunteer orientations and training sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support up to 35 CASA volunteers in meeting program expectations.
  • Serve as a dependency court expert and resource for CASA volunteers advocating for children and youth.
  • Assist in interviewing, training, and matching CASA volunteers with children.
  • Review court reports prepared by CASA volunteers and provide feedback for submission to the Juvenile Court Judge.
  • Develop strategies for volunteer advocacy and maintain accurate electronic and office files.
  • Accompany volunteers on home visits as needed and maintain regular communication.
  • Facilitate training sessions for CASA volunteers, which may include evening or weekend work.
  • Serve as a staff expert on child welfare and develop relevant written materials.
  • Participate in court hearings and meetings to support CASA volunteers.
  • Ensure all records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with program requirements.
  • Collaborate as a team member, backing up other staff when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: Case management. Managing and working with volunteers. Understanding child abuse, neglect, and supporting families in crisis.
  • Competencies/Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Strong knowledge of the child welfare and foster care system. Ability to manage and track progress across multiple cases. Problem-solving, mediation, and collaboration skills. Passionate about working with children and families. Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Accountability: The Advocacy Coordinator will report directly to the Program Manager and is responsible for upholding CASA’s mission to advocate for the best interests of children in foster care.
