Job Description
Raising resources to support the mission of the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) is essential for our success, growth, and future impact.
The main responsibilities for this role include leading, planning, and executing our largest fundraiser of the year, the Big Game Ball, as well as organizing a golf outing. The job also involves some cultivation work and securing sponsors and exhibitors for the NDSC Convention, along with coordinating efforts with several key national corporate sponsors.
The person in this role must be a strategic leader with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. This is a full-time, exempt, remote position. However, we need a candidate who lives in the Greater Atlanta area because we host two major fundraising events there.

- NDSC Staff Responsibilities
- The Development Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director. He has spent his entire career involved in fundraising efforts and served as Chapter President for the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Greater Cincinnati.
- Submit a monthly staff report and expense report.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Big Game Ball (BGB)
- Partner with Bob Hope and his team at Hope-Beckham-Espinosa to plan and execute this event at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. This is usually held the week of the Kickoff Classic.
- Collaborate with Bob & HBE on recruiting members of the Host Committee and then provide leadership to this team during the planning process.
- Help the Host Committee secure sponsorships while staying engaged with your own portfolio of both past and potential sponsors.
- Serve as the liaison for the Inclusion Postsecondary Education (IPSE) programs at schools we will recognize, and any award winners.
- Work with the Production Team to plan and execute the program for the BGB.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator at NDSC to handle the promotional and design elements required for BGB.
- Collaborate with the Accountant and Administrative Coordinator at NDSC to monitor all finances related to the BGB.
- National Down Syndrome Golf Classic
- Recruit and partner with a Golf Outing Committee during the planning process. Serve as the Project Leader for this team.
- Help the Golf Committee secure sponsorships while staying engaged with your own portfolio of both past and potential sponsors.
- Be the primary point of contact with the golf course and all vendors associated with this event.
- Recruit a Volunteer Coordinator from the Golf Committee to assist in recruiting volunteers and empower the VC to supervise and support the volunteers on the day of the Golf Outing.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator at NDSC to handle the promotional and design elements required for BGB.
- Develop a marketing plan for the “Tee Up in Your Hometown” aspect of this outing, as well as a Major Raffle
- Collaborate with the Accountant and Administrative Coordinator at NDSC to monitor all finances related to the Golf Outing.
- NDSC Convention
- Assist the Executive Director and others in securing Convention sponsors. Track all commitments.
- Collaborate with the Convention Director and Communications Coordinator to ensure that all sponsor benefits are fulfilled.
- Serve as the Project Leader to promote exhibitor opportunities and ultimately secure commitments for our exhibitor tables.
- Work with the Convention Director on the layout of the Exhibit Hall.
- During the Convention, serve as our NDSC point person in the Exhibit Hall, connected with both sponsors and exhibitors.
- National Corporate Sponsors
- Currently, we have two national sponsors based in Atlanta who contribute significantly in various ways to support NDSC. They are UPS and Dr. Noze Best. UPS funds an Inclusive Post-Secondary Education scholarship fund that NDSC manages. Dr. Noze Best donates a portion of its sales each year, which is distributed across the Convention, Big Game Ball, and the Golf Outing.
- With a team of volunteers, manage the promotion of the UPS Jake Pratt Scholarship program, which involves promoting the opportunity, reviewing applications, making selections, and notifying the scholarship winners.
- Explore other opportunities with national brands that may want to collaborate with NDSC in different ways to support our mission.
- Reviews & Supervision
- All new employees receive an initial performance appraisal upon completing their first 90 days of employment.
- To give our staff consistent feedback and promote ongoing dialogue about priorities, performance challenges, and how they can feel supported and empowered, each team member submits a monthly report to their supervisor. This report outlines their top three to five work priorities for the next 90 days on a rolling basis. They also describe the progress made on their current monthly priorities.
- Along with the monthly report, each staff member and supervisor will have regular check-in meetings, at least once a month. A key part of these meetings will be updating and working toward their priorities for the next 90 days.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in fundraising or event management.
- Familiarity with the Down syndrome community and its unique needs is highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency in CRM or fundraising database systems, as well as online giving and event management platforms. We partner with Bloomerang for our database and utilize their product, qGiv, to manage our online giving and fundraising events.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment.
